Student Sustainability Advisory Council

The Penn State Student Sustainability Advisory Council is comprised of students with experience and interest in studying, advancing, and promoting sustainability and who are committed to helping to advance Penn State’s strategic goals for sustainability. Appointed faculty and administrators from the Sustainability Institute, Finance and Business, and Student Affairs are also members of the Council and they provide resources, support, and assistance to help the SSAC explore ideas and implement recommendations. The Council provides consultation and advice on Penn State sustainability planning, programs, and initiatives. The Council meets biweekly and engages its members around specific sustainability topics and initiatives outside of regular meetings. Potential areas of focus include sustainability within operations, research, academics, campus life, and community outreach. Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for membership on the Council. The current co-chairs are Lydia Carey and Eliana Wagner.

University Park Undergraduate Association

The University Park Undergraduate Association (UPUA) serves as Penn State University Park’s student government, and was formed in 2006 to work to improve student life for all undergraduate students at Penn State’s University Park campus. The UPUA, like the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) before it, serves to provide students a platform for representation at the highest levels of administration, government, and the public, as well as build and sponsor programs which benefit undergraduate students at University Park.

UPUA has a Sustainability Department with it’s various members serving throughout the University in various capacities.

Council of Sustainable Leaders

The Council of Sustainable Leaders (CSL) is the student affiliate organization of the Penn State Sustainability Institute. We, firstly, facilitate collaborative efforts between student leaders in sustainability to further sustainability initiatives at Penn State. We use the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, which are broad, audacious goals that outline a vision for a better world for all, to guide this work. And, secondly, we host an annual Sustainability Showcase Series, which highlights interdisciplinary expertise in sustainability.
