Diana Morris receives 2018 Novosel Award for distinguished nursing alumni

Diana Lynn Morris, a 1981 graduate of Penn State’s Nursing program, received the 2018 Shirley Novosel Distinguished Nursing Alumni Award, presented by the Penn State Nursing Alumni Society to recognize an alumnus/alumna who exemplifies the spirit of nursing and the College of Nursing’s ideals and philosophy.

Alumni Spotlight: When it comes to getting involved, Wendy Edgar has a predicament: “I can’t say no!” she says. But what may present a time-management challenge for Edgar has proven to be an asset for the University and the College of Nursing, which have benefited greatly from her leadership talents.

Student Spotlight: Maria San Román

A serendipitous conversation on a bus during her first semester led to Maria San Román’s four-year involvement with SNAP’s Penn State chapter. Four years later, she is preparing to graduate in May with an impressive array of achievements under her belt.

As president of SNAP at Penn State during her senior year, Maria led the chapter to winning the Chapter Excellence Award at the statewide convention for the third year in a row, and developed a website that won the Outstanding Chapter Website award at the same event. On a personal level, Maria was honored to receive the Student Leader Scholarship Award, administered through the Office of Student Activities, in December.

Mission Statement

The Alumni Society Board of Penn State College of Nursing is an organization of alumni committed to supporting and enhancing the college’s mission through assistance with student relations, alumni relations, community relations, and development. Its goals are to support the college’s strategic plan, to establish and maintain a strong alumni network, and to foster positive student interactions with administration, faculty, and alumni.


Harness the talents, time, and resources of alumni to assist the College of Nursing in supporting the growth and achievement of students, faculty, staff, and fellow alumni.

Our Goals

Goal 1: Board Infrastructure

Establish a sound foundational board infrastructure to ensure the success of the board and secure sanctioning by the Pennsylvania State University Alumni Association by the target date of spring 2016.

Goal 2: Board Growth

Collaborate and engage Nursing alumni from all campuses with Nursing programs with the intent to uphold the mission and vision of the College of Nursing, the probationary board, and its membership.

Goal 3: Board Partnerships

Evaluate existing relationship with the College of Health and Human Development Alumni Society Board to determine opportunities for ongoing collaboration, sharing of resources, and to identify potential new opportunities to enhance and support the mission of the College of Nursing and the College of Nursing Alumni Society Board.
