At age 5, Bianca de Leon emigrated from the Philippines with her family in search of a better life. But that life wasn’t easy. Thanks to perseverance and a strong support system, she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing and graduated in 2017 with a commission in the U.S. Navy Nurse Corps.read more
Rita Concannon, an Army ROTC cadet, arrived at Penn State in fall 2014. Within her first week, she met Christin Folwarczny, a junior Nursing student who would help her make the transition into college and military life.
“One of the benefits of ROTC is they pair freshmen with upperclass students for a mentoring relationship,” Rita said. “We had dinner together that first week. She showed me how to fill out my 104R (academic course planner for ROTC) and other paperwork. She looked at my schedule and we developed a study plan together.”read more
