POSITION SPECIFICS
The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is seeking a dynamic and technically skilled Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist to support the delivery of high-fidelity simulation and technology-based education at the Penn State University Park campus.
This role is pivotal in ensuring the seamless operation of audiovisual (AV) systems, simulation technologies, and innovative teaching tools that enhance experiential learning for students.
The Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist will work with faculty and simulation center staff to develop simulation-based educational programs. This includes helping faculty develop interactive learner-centered instructional strategies for use in a state-of-the-art active learning classroom.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Simulation Operations & AV Support
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot simulation manikins, task trainers, and associated AV systems.
- Manage and maintain simulation center technologies including cameras, microphones, recording software, and debriefing systems (SimCapture).
- Coordinate with vendors for the installation, maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to simulation and AV equipment.
- Provide real-time technical support during simulation sessions, ensuring minimal disruption to learning.
- Maintain inventory and perform routine maintenance and calibration of simulation equipment and software updates.
- Set up, operate, and support a 200-seat active learning classroom, inclusive of classroom wall and seating changes, as well as manikin and task trainer changes for learner experiences and college events.
- Calendar and schedule events for simulation lab spaces and the active learning classroom.
- Assist with inventory management, supply ordering, and budget planning.
- Maintain ancillary medical equipment such as IV pumps used in simulation.
Innovative Teaching & Educational Technology
- Collaborate with faculty, instructional designers, and IT personnel to integrate simulation and emerging technologies (e.g., VR/AR, 3D printing, AI tools) as well as support other devices used in both the classroom and the simulation center.
- Support the development and implementation of interactive learning modules and digital content.
- Assist in the design and execution of immersive learning environments that promote active learning and clinical reasoning.
Training & Collaboration
- Train faculty, staff, and learners on the use of simulation equipment and AV systems.
- Participate in scenario development and simulation planning meetings.
- Support interprofessional education and collaborative simulation events.
- Maintain currency in simulation education including staying abreast of emerging simulation technologies.
- May supervise work-study or part-time simulation technicians.
The Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist will also contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and simulation center accreditation processes, as well as document simulation activities, equipment usage, and maintenance logs.
As needed, the Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist will be required to infrequently work outside of typical business hours, including early morning and evening hours.
Qualifications:
- Degree in healthcare, technology, education, or a related field
- 2+ years of experience in simulation operations, AV support, or clinical education
- Proficiency with simulation software and AV systems
- Computer literacy in PC and Mac-based software applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Exceptional analytical, interpretive, and problem-solving skills
- Outstanding communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
Candidates must also have knowledge of the following:
- Principles and methods of adult education
- Educational theory and instructional technology
- Computer hardware equipment and software applications relevant to simulator function

POSITION SPECIFICS
The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing undergraduate program at Penn State Altoona seeks applicants for a full-time teaching position at the rank of Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor in Nursing. This position is a full-time, thirty-six-week appointment for fall and spring semesters, with an August 2025 start date.
Candidates for the position at the rank of Instructor will possess a master’s degree in Nursing and eligibility for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. An earned Doctorate degree (e.g., DNP, PhD) within 5 years of hire is a condition of continued employment. Candidates for the position at the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor will possess a doctorate degree (e.g., DNP, PhD) and eligibility for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. Candidates with a doctorate will be given preference.
Primary responsibilities will include coordination and instruction in adult medical-surgical nursing, including classroom, simulation lab, and clinical teaching. In addition to teaching, responsibilities include advising students, participating in committees, and other service and scholarly activities as appropriate. Successful applicants should show evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and mastery of medical surgical subject matter; hold a valid nursing license; and be eligible for RN licensure in Pennsylvania.

POSITION SPECIFICS
Position Summary
The Assistant Director of the Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) Program provides academic, clinical, and administrative support to the Program Director in the leadership and management of this collaborative program between the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing and the College of Medicine. This faculty leadership role ensures accreditation compliance, high-quality academic and clinical instruction, and student success. The Assistant Director assumes delegated responsibilities in the Director’s absence and collaborates across academic, clinical, and administrative domains to support program development, curriculum delivery, and student outcomes.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Assist the Program Director in administrative duties, including accreditation documentation, internal and external reporting, and quality assurance processes.
- Serve as acting program lead in the absence of the Program Director.
- Serve on the DNP-NA Curriculum Committee and contribute to curriculum development, assessment, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with administrative offices to manage and maintain clinical affiliation agreements in compliance with educational and accreditation standards.
- Serve on admissions committees and participate in recruitment, application review, and candidate interviews.
Teaching, Clinical, and Scholarly Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the Program Director to ensure initial and continuing compliance with COA and CCNE accreditation standards.
- Oversee and manage clinical curriculum components including clinical site placement, case logs, learner evaluations, and clinical site coordination.
- Deliver instruction in nurse anesthesia didactic and clinical coursework, including advanced simulation experiences.
- Design, implement, and evaluate simulation-based learning activities for skill acquisition, competency-based assessment, and student remediation.
- Coordinate remediation planning and support in partnership with the Student Success Center Coordinator.
- Support students’ engagement in DNP scholarly projects, evidence-based practice initiatives, and dissemination activities.
- Assist in the preparation of students’ publications and professional presentations.
- Actively engage in clinical practice at Penn State Health Milton S. Hershey Medical Center as part of the joint appointment with Penn State College of Medicine
Student Support and Learning Environment
- Provide academic mentorship and clinical guidance to Nurse Anesthesia students.
- Foster a learning environment that supports diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being for all students.
- Promote academic excellence and professionalism through supportive advising and competency-based assessment.
- Work closely with faculty and preceptors to optimize clinical experiences.

- Reports to the Director of the Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) Program.
- Collaborates with faculty and staff within the DNP-NA program, the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing, and the College of Medicine.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Doctoral degree (PhD, EdD, or DNP) in Nursing from an accredited institution.
2. Currently licensed as a registered nurse in Pennsylvania or eligible for licensure through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.
3. Current certification/recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the NBCRNA.
4. Current certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
5. Minimum of three years of experience as a practicing CRNA.
6. Lecturer or Instructor – A lecturer or instructor should possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent, or be an active candidate for a terminal degree, in an academic field related to their teaching specialization.
7. Assistant Teaching Professor – The assistant teaching professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to his/her teaching specialization; alternatively, the assistant teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.
8. Associate Teaching Professor – The associate teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter. Alternatively, the associate teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master’s degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of senior lecturer or instructor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the assistant teaching professor.
9. Teaching Professor – The teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of associate teaching professor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the associate teaching professor.

- Teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia or higher education program.
- Academic administrative or leadership experience in a nurse anesthesia educational setting.
- Demonstrated experience designing and implementing simulation-based learning in anesthesia or nursing education.
- Familiarity with curriculum development and COA/CCNE accreditation processes.
- Demonstrated commitment to advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion in academic and clinical environments.

Faculty Position:
Your work at Penn State will have a lasting impact and you will enjoy the benefit of being a part of Penn State’s R1 research community. As an integral research faculty member in the Nese College of Nursing, you will be expected to direct a research program focused on nursing science and its translation to person-centered care across the lifespan and the health/wellness continuum. Our faculty teach undergraduate and graduate-level courses as well as supervise and mentor doctoral students. In addition, we expect our tenure track and tenured faculty to engage in outreach to disseminate research to stakeholders, including policymakers, nurses, and other practitioners at national, regional, and local conferences and meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants at the rank of Assistant Professor must have the following at the time of beginning the appointment:
- Earned a doctorate or a degree equivalent to a Ph.D. in the United States, in nursing or a closely related discipline.
- A valid United States nursing license.
- A strong record of research and scholarly achievements.
- Demonstrated commitment to, or vision for, building an inclusive, equitable, and diverse campus community.
- Evidence of, or potential for, receiving external research funding.
- The following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check.
Applicants at the rank of Associate Professor should possess the same qualifications as Assistant Professor as well as:
- Must show evidence of expertise in advancing science or theory and/or conducting an independent program of research (including serving as PI of funded grants and dissemination of research through presentations, scholarly publications, and directing research activities of others).
- May also engage in team science or innovation/entrepreneurship that is aligned with their independent program of research. Team science should be impactful and scientifically rigorous with the same criteria of dissemination noted above.
Applicants at the rank of Professor should possess the same qualifications as Associate Professor as well as:
- Must have demonstrated and sustained productivity in research and scholarly activities, recognized leadership in professional organizations and learned societies, and national recognition as a leader in their area of research.
- May also engage in or assume a leadership role in team science or innovation/entrepreneurship, as articulated above, and extending to the level of full professorship that is aligned with their program of research.
Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing:

The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at the Penn State Mont Alto Campus has openings for part-time instructors in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program.
Responsibilities will be clinical instruction of students in all levels of the program at various clinical site locations. Areas of practice include medical-surgical, critical care, community health, pediatrics, maternal-child, mental health, and geriatric nursing.
A Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a related Graduate degree and recent clinical experience is required.
