The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing seeks applicants for a full-time (thirty-six-week), one-year, non-tenure line appointment with full benefits, in the undergraduate program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College to begin Fall 2024.

The Penn State Nese College of Nursing is one of the most comprehensive colleges of nursing in any public university in the country. With over 2,100 undergraduate students and approximately 200 graduate students, our footprint is world-wide with our faculty creating immeasurable experiences for our students around the globe.

Primary responsibilities will include coordination and instruction in medical-surgical and pathophysiology courses, including classroom, simulation lab, and clinical teaching, along with other courses that match the candidate’s background. In addition to teaching, responsibilities will include advising students, participating in committees, and other service and scholarly activities as appropriate.

Candidates for the position will possess at a minimum a master’s degree in nursing and eligibility for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. Individuals with a master’s degree will be considered at the rank of instructor, and individuals with a doctoral degree (e.g., DNP, PhD) will be considered at the rank of assistant teaching professor. An earned Doctorate degree will be a condition of continued employment after the fifth year for a candidate hired as an instructor. Candidates with Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and clinical certification are preferred. Successful applicants should show evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and mastery of medical-surgical subject matter; hold a valid nursing license; and be eligible for RN licensure in Pennsylvania. The Erie area has multiple opportunities available for collaborative research and scholarly activity through two local hospitals. Assistant or Associate Teaching Faculty in Psych Mental Health

The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing seeks applications for a full-time non-tenure line faculty member in the Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Doctoral Program within the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at the University Park campus or the Hershey campus. Travel to other campuses may be necessary. This will be a full-time thirty-six-week appointment with full benefits. The successful candidate will be expected to teach fall and spring semesters with an anticipated start date as early as August 2023. This is a limited-term position funded for one year, with excellent chances of renewal.

Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in-person and online, clinical supervision, serving on student doctoral committees, advising students, and other service and scholarly activities. The position will be filled at the Assistant Teaching Professor or higher rank based upon the credentials of the successful candidate. This position requires national certification as a Psych Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, a PA State license as a Psych Mental Health CRNP (or be eligible for PA licensure), and a minimum of one year of experience as a CRNP. Candidates must be prepared at the doctorate level. Teaching experience is preferred. We offer a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor – Child Maltreatment

The position is for an open-rank tenure-line faculty member in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing (Nese CON), whose research focuses on child maltreatment with a linkage to adolescent and child victims of sexual abuse/assault.

Faculty Position:

With a focus on the interdisciplinary topical area of Child Maltreatment as it relates to research targeting understanding and responding to the needs of communities and the impact on adolescents and young adults who are victims of sexual abuse/assault you will enjoy the benefit of being a member of Penn State’s R1 research community. Appointed as a co-funded hire, you will engage with the diverse research portfolio and expertise in Penn State’s Social Science Research Institute’s Child Maltreatment Solutions Network and the Nese College of Nursing. Further, being a leader in the coordinating entity of the university for the dissemination of relevant communications, public awareness, student engagement, and service pertaining to child protection and well-being information and initiatives, you will help integrate these initiatives into all our academic units’ teaching and research programs while also contributing to the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing’s mission.

As an integral member of the Nese College of Nursing research faculty, you will be expected to direct a research program focused on child maltreatment and sexual abuse/ assault. In addition to accelerating strong collaborative interdisciplinary research, you will teach both undergraduate and graduate-level courses and direct dissertations. Also charged with engaging in outreach, you will work to disseminate research on child maltreatment and sexual abuse/assault to a range of stakeholders, including policymakers, nurses, and other practitioners, at national, regional, and local conferences and meetings.

Faculty candidate:

With the complexity of sexual assault and forensics, to be successful in your pursuit of this opportunity, you need to have experience and expertise to provide leadership within the college and research to design, implement, and test interventions for this population. Additionally, you should have a strong publication record and a track record of securing external funding. Preference will be given to a senior candidate at the Associate or Full Professor level. A nursing license is strongly preferred.

Truly founded in collaboration, you would be a good fit for this role and culture if you are experienced in fostering collaborations with colleagues in other disciplines and units across the college. Finally, we seek a colleague who will pursue a program of externally funded research published in highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals in nursing, child maltreatment and sexual abuse/assault research.

Penn State’s Child Maltreatment Solutions Network has become a national leader in research designed to influence public policy that better protects vulnerable children from abuse. Its mission is to use research to improve outcomes for children by gathering evidence that facilitates intervention programs and influences policy reform at the local, state, and federal levels.

Research

The Network’s research efforts focus on the causes, prevention, detection, consequences, and treatment of child abuse and neglect. Dedicated to improving the well-being of children, youth, and families while expanding Penn State’s internationally recognized expertise in research, practice and education. They provide opportunities and support for collaborative and translational science in order to address the complex problems of child maltreatment. Our work covers the spectrum, ranging from research on child development and clinical treatments that foster child health to public policy that promotes child safety and well-being.

Education

Through undergraduate and graduate ­level coursework and other educational opportunities for faculty, staff, students and professionals, the Network strives to raise awareness and train the next generation of professionals. In addition, the Network facilitates events including an annual conference aimed at increasing awareness, disseminating cutting ­edge research, and supporting innovative programs.

Service

The Network aims to push the bounds of social and public policy through efficient translation of evidence­-based research. By partnering with community providers and public policy leaders at the local, state, and federal levels, our goal is to raise public awareness about the scope and gravity of child maltreatment and to elevate this issue as worthy of significant public health investment. Countering child maltreatment is a community concern that requires community-wide efforts. We engage with a wide array of agencies and organizations to learn more about local needs and to contribute expertise that will lead to safe, healthful environments for all children.

The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at the Penn State Mont Alto Campus has openings for part-time instructors in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program for the 2023-2024 academic year, which begins Fall of 2023.

Responsibilities will be clinical instruction of students in all levels of the program at various clinical site locations. Areas of practice include medical-surgical, critical care, community health, pediatrics, maternal-child, mental health, and geriatric nursing.

A Bachelor of Science in Nursing with a related Graduate degree and recent clinical experience is required.

Leadership in nursing is needed now more than ever, equally as paramount for the future of our shared health and wellness is the advanced preparation of the next generation of nurse researchers and scientists. As a result, the Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is pleased to announce an Associate Dean for Graduate Education position.

Administrative Position:

Directly influencing the next generation of nurse researchers and scientists, you’ll be a senior member of the college’s administrative team. A visionary and innovative leader, you’ll provide strategic guidance for our graduate education program in the college. Reporting to the Dean, you’ll build a collaborative community for our graduate faculty that delivers across the teaching, research, and outreach functions of Penn State Nursing.

Specifically, you’ll work to promote and strengthen our graduate education across the University ecosystem, including interfacing with the Graduate School. Leveraging your collaborative ties with the faculty, you’ll coordinate periodic reviews of the graduate program and oversee the development and refinement of the curriculum.

Serving on the University Advisory Committee on Graduate Education, you’ll foster and support graduate education and research, coordinate faculty and graduate student recognition programs, and coordinate global initiatives in the areas of research and graduate education. This position calls for a knowledge of current trends in research and graduate education.

Faculty candidate:

To be successful in your pursuit of this opportunity, you should have experience teaching master’s and doctoral level courses in resident and online platforms with experience in academic administration. Further, you should have significant scholarly accomplishments and a record of national and international service.

You should have an active research portfolio with potential for attracting extramural research and program funding.

A Master’s degree in nursing and a Ph.D. in nursing or equivalent in a related field of study is required. You should also be able to illustrate your achievements in teaching, scholarship, and service commensurate with a tenure eligible appointment. You must also hold a valid United States nursing license and be eligible for a Pennsylvania license.

You are an ideal addition to our faculty and the administration at large if you can demonstrate previous leadership capacity on behalf of a faculty and in working with all levels of complex organizations and University administration. You’ll be a good fit with our culture if you are high energy with excellent communication skills, a team spirit, a penchant for executing, and a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Candidates should have an active research portfolio with potential for attracting extramural funding that will contribute to the advancement of science and knowledge translation across the lifespan and health/wellness continuum. Successful applicants must have a research doctorate degree and a documented commitment to teaching and service. Nursing faculty candidates must hold a valid United States nursing license. 

Responsibilities include directing a research program and fostering collaborations with colleagues in other disciplines, as well as faculty in the Tressa Nese and Helen Diskevich Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, the Sexual Assault Forensic Examination Telehealth (SAFE-T) Center, both housed within the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing, and across 12 Penn State Campus locations including Hershey Medical Center where nursing programs are delivered. In addition to accelerating strong collaborative interdisciplinary research, the new faculty member will teach both undergraduate and graduate level courses and direct dissertations. The successful candidate also will mentor faculty with similar or complementary research foci. We seek a colleague who will pursue a program of externally funded research that is published in highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals.
