EMPOWERING US Research Network

Empowering US Nursing Home Stakeholders to Engage in Patient Centered Research

Purpose:

This national initiative, led by Penn State University in partnership with the AgingIn, seeks to empower nursing home residents, families, staff, leaders, and researchers, advocates and policy makers, to meaningfully engage clinically in patient-centered comparative clinical effectiveness research. By building knowledge, networks, and tools, we aim to strengthen nursing home communities’ capacity to collaborate in research (CER) — where it is urgently needed but rarely conducted.

Impact:

Through a community advisory board, stakeholder training, and a growing national network, this project co-creates a sustainable solution to ensure the voices of nursing home stakeholders guide the future of research, care, and policy. Together, we are laying the groundwork for more inclusive, equitable, and evidence-informed skilled nursing care.
