Outreach and Continuing Education

Outreach at the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is focused on meeting educational and service needs in the community beyond the walls of the school. The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is geographically dispersed, and its outreach program connects with many local communities across Pennsylvania. Outreach includes service-learning projects in the community, credit courses, and programs for nursing continuing education.

If you are holding an educational activity, in which you wish to offer CNE contact hours, please submit the following documents to nursece@psu.edu.

We require 45 days to review the packet and provide feedback. If you have a special circumstance regarding an alternative timeline, please contact nursece@psu.edu. Fees: We have a modest administrative fee associated with this program. We will provide an invoice with the packet approval. Fee structure is provided by request via nursece@psu.edu.

Online Courses

Build your continuing education résumé with courses by RNs for RNs. These courses are offered continuously for online continuing education.

At completion of a CE course and evaluation, students will receive a certificate.

All course materials, quizzes, certificates, and member histories will be available through the site at the click of a mouse. New courses will be added on a regular basis in order to assist Pennsylvania RNs in obtaining their biennial thirty CE hours.

Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by the Pennsylvania State Nurses Association (PSNA), an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.


Leadership and Management

We offer an exportable in-person (or via remote connection) continuing education course focused on healthcare leadership and management topic areas. The course is designed in two-hour (2 contact hour) modules for a total of 12 hours (12 contact hours). If you are interested in hosting this seminar in your organization, please contact us at nursece@psu.edu.


Improving Practice Through Simulation

Practice your clinical skills in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing’s simulation lab, filled with the latest technologies for nursing education. Gain confidence by practicing on simulated patients and engaging in simulated exercises to help reduce clinical errors. This is an in-person course offered in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing Simulation Lab at University Park, PA.

Obtain your required Act 58 hours while gaining the most up-to-date health information.

Courses are taught in the Penn State Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing state-of-the-art simulation lab, offering the newest technology and hands-on experiences.


School Nurse Series

The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing Outreach programs and Penn State Outreach bring to you a variety of courses aimed at keeping you up to date on the current health issues facing school nurses and teachers. New courses are developed each summer with current topics such as autism and bullying.
