Ireland – study abroad

This 6-day program in Ireland is for nurses in training so they can engage in a cultural experience in Ireland and their delivery of healthcare services. The nursing students will participate in in-classroom activities and lectures, SIM lab, and have opportunities to have community nursing experiences at outlying facilities in Ireland.

Approximate cost: $2700.00

During the program, the students will engage with the University of Galway Nursing and Midwifery. The students will learn about:

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate education in Higher Education Institutions in Ireland.
  • Advanced practice roles in Ireland – similarities and contrasts with international experiences
  • Learn about Ireland’s Critical Care Outreach Team
  • Oncology from the Ireland perspective
  • The influence of AI on Nurse Education and Healthcare
  • Digital Technologies for Nursing Education
  • Global Health – Reflections from Voluntary Work
  • Clinical Skills Lab scenarios
  • Irish healthcare system and provisions
  • Top tips to succeed as an undergraduate student in nursing and transitioning to RN
  • Nursing Research in Ireland

NURSING PROGRAM LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

Students who successfully complete the nursing program will be able to do the following:

  • Understand how nursing students learn within the University of Galway Nursing and Midwifery School.
  • Understand how health care is delivered in Ireland.
  • Understand the University of Galway’s clinical and simulation tools.
  • Understand how Ireland can achieve impressive health outcomes.
  • Understand how research makes an impact on the health care system in Ireland.
  • Interested students should talk to an advisor about registering for the course as NURS 499 Ireland.

CURRICULUM:

This program includes asynchronous sessions. Modules are asynchronous and must be completed on due dates noted within Canvas. There are pre-trip Zoom meetings that are set up before the trip. All pre-course work is identified within Canvas and must be completed before the trip to Ireland.
