Paris and Ireland – study abroad

This 7-day program in Paris, France and Galway, Ireland is for nurses in training so they can engage in a cultural experience in Ireland and their delivery of healthcare services. The nursing students will participate in in-classroom activities and lectures, SIM lab, and have opportunities to have community nursing experiences at outlying facilities in Ireland.

Dates: November 21-28, 2026
Approximate cost: $3600-$3800, multiple grants and scholarships are available.
Travel Organization: TBD

During the program, the students will engage with the University of Galway Nursing and Midwifery. The students will learn about:

  • Undergraduate and Postgraduate education in Higher Education Institutions in Ireland.
  • Advanced practice roles in Ireland – similarities and contrasts with international experiences
  • Learn about Ireland’s Critical Care Outreach Team
  • Oncology from the Ireland perspective
  • The influence of AI on Nurse Education and Healthcare
  • Digital Technologies for Nursing Education
  • Global Health – Reflections from Voluntary Work
  • Clinical Skills Lab scenarios
  • Irish healthcare system and provisions
  • Top tips to succeed as an undergraduate student in nursing and transitioning to RN
  • Nursing Research in Ireland

Nursing Program Learning Objectives

Students who successfully complete the nursing program will be able to do the following:

  • Understand how nursing students learn within the University of Galway Nursing and Midwifery School.
  • Understand how health care is delivered in Ireland.
  • Understand the University of Galway’s clinical and simulation tools.
  • Understand how Ireland can achieve impressive health outcomes.
  • Understand how research makes an impact on the health care system in Ireland.
  • Interested students should talk to an advisor about registering for the course as NURS 499 Ireland.

Curriculum:

This program includes asynchronous sessions. Modules are asynchronous and must be completed on due dates noted within Canvas. There are pre-trip Zoom meetings that are set up before the trip. All pre-course work is identified within Canvas and must be completed before the trip to Ireland.

Detailed Itinerary:

This itinerary combines the iconic charm of Paris, France with the relaxed cultural beauty of Galway, Ireland. The journey features guided sightseeing, a full day at Disneyland Paris, seamless transfers, and comfortable accommodations—balancing adventures, leisure, and cultural immersion.

  1. Day 1 – Saturday, November 21, 2026 | Depart USA
    • International flight from Philadelphia, PA, to Paris Charles de
    • Gaulle Airport (CDG)
    • Overnight flight
  2. Day 2 – Sunday, November 22, 2026 | Paris
    • Arrival in Paris, France
    • Assistance and transfer at the airport
    • Full-day guided sightseeing tour of the magnificent city of Paris, designed to immerse you in its rich history, iconic architecture, and vibrant culture. This comprehensive tour features all the major landmarks and highlights that define the City of Lights. You will experience breathtaking views and learn fascinating stories at the world-famous Eiffel Tower, a global cultural icon of France. The tour continues to the majestic Arc de Triomphe, standing proudly at the western end of the Champs-Élysées, where you will learn about its significance as a tribute to those who fought for France.
    • The afternoon concludes with a River Seine cruise aboard a Bateaux Mouche. Departing from the nearby Pont de l’Alma, these glass-covered excursion boats offer the group a unique perspective of central Paris from the river. Tickets are included.
