Sanders has been a  nurse for 42 years and started her career in 1983 at a local hospital working on a progressive care unit.  In 1992, she transferred to the emergency room and worked there full-time, part-time and on a per diem status until 2020 when she transferred to a pediatrics unit on a per diem basis. Sanders has also worked in professional development at LVHN Schuylkill and as a Magnet Coordinator.  Currently, she is a per diem supervisor at a behavioral health hospital. She has taught nursing at Alvernia University as an adjunct and began teaching full time in 2004 in the undergraduate program as well as in the Master’s of Science in Nursing program.  Sanders has also taught at The Joseph F. McCloskey School of Nursing from 2012-2016, 2017-2021.  In 2009, she  started teaching at The Pennsylvania State University, Schuylkill, as an adjunct for the RN to BSN program.  She  became a full time assistant teaching professor of nursing in the undergraduate program at Penn State, Schuylkill, in 2022 and continues until the present.
