Gross is a first-generation college graduate and the first Registered Nurse in her family. She has worked as a Medical-Surgical Intensive Care Unit nurse, community/population health nurse, and a project coordinator in a research department. She still maintain clinical practice as a community health nurse for a local healthcare system. She is  involved in several organizations such as the Association of Community Health Nurse Educators (ACHNE), Sigma, and the National League of Nursing. Gross has been a peer reviewer for Nursing Forum, book contributor for a clinical nurse educator review book, presenter at national conferences, and co-author for articles on community health nursing topics. Her research topics include resiliency, self-care, and transition to practice.
