On Interprofessional Education
I believe Interprofessional Education (IPE) is essential for nursing students because it prepares them to work effectively within healthcare teams and provide high-quality, patient-centered care. In healthcare, we never work alone but collaborate with other disciplines. Learning alongside other disciplines promotes communication, collaboration, and mutual respect, all of which are essential for improving patient outcomes and ensuring patient safety. Without IPE opportunities, students might never experience this collaboration until they are in the field. IPE helps future nurses understand the value of interdisciplinary communication and enables them to see the value of each team member and their role on the team. IPE experiences help refine understanding of today’s complex healthcare environment to best serve patients in the future.”
