The Penn State College of Nursing is seeking a highly motivated, creative, and ambitious Instructional Designer to facilitate course growth in support of the College’s instruction, research, and outreach missions.
This individual will have the opportunity to serve in an active role to contribute directly to successful learning outcomes of the best Nurses and Nurse Leaders in the Country by building educational programming and advancement of nursing education throughout the college, the commonwealth, and beyond.
The College of Nursing is uniquely positioned throughout the state of Pennsylvania and online, with various offerings at 11 commonwealth campuses, University Park, and the online World Campus. As a new position in our technical operations team this person will help lead the development of new undergraduate and graduate courses for online, hybrid, and resident instruction delivery mechanisms. This person will work with faculty to plan, design, maintain, and revise courses in Canvas. Candidates should have extensive instructional design experience in higher education, knowledge of learning theory and pedagogical principles, and experience designing and revising academic courses in accordance with quality assurance standards. This person should have knowledge of instructional design issues and best practices, as well as application of existing and emerging educational technologies.
This candidate will manage multiple projects, work in a fast-paced environment, and apply creative thinking to develop new solutions. This person should be able to manage the scope, timeline, and deliverables of multiple projects simultaneously.
This position will be expected to contribute to faculty development initiatives, course improvement plans, development and documentation of best practices and SOPs, with the goal of ongoing process improvement. The candidate should have thorough knowledge of Learning Management Systems, ideally Canvas, as well as multimedia development processes, accessibility, and copyright.
Excellent verbal communication, written, and editing skills along with teamwork/interpersonal skills are essential. It is vital that this position builds and maintains positive, effective working relationships with clients in the college and within the work unit.
This position is posted as a level 3 and typically requires a master’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. This position is onsite.
