Post-masters Certificate in Geriatric Nursing Education

In collaboration with the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence, the Penn State School of Nursing is now pleased to offer a fully online Post-Master's Certificate in Geriatric Nursing Education.

The primary goal of this program is to prepare individuals with a current master's degree in nursing to teach geriatric nursing – both at the associate and baccalaureate degree levels – with a high level of competency.  

The curriculum consists of four graduate-level courses (12 credits), all of which are delivered entirely online through Penn State’s World Campus using interactive distance technology.  In cooperation with World Campus, our certificate students have ready access to technology support and multiple online modalities as needed throughout their course of study.

The Graduate Certificate in Geriatric Nursing Education program includes two 3-credit courses of didactic content in gerontological nursing (6 credits) and two 3-credit courses of didactic content in education (6 credits). 

The two nursing courses are gero-intensive, developed by our own geriatric nursing faculty at Penn State’s School of Nursing.

Students have several options among the education courses offered within the certificate, depending on their areas of interest:

To be awarded the Graduate Certificate in Geriatric Nursing Education, students must successfully complete both of the gerontological nursing courses, along with two education courses consistent with one of the following alternative groupings:

  1. ADTED 460 and either ADTED 506 or ADTED 507

OR

  1. C I 501 and EDLDR 551

The certificate program is a great way to sample our geriatric nursing courses and to get to know Hartford Center faculty.  It also allows you to begin studies as a non-degree student.
