Peter Buerhaus, PhD, RN, FAAN, FAANP(h) will be the speaker for this year’s Jean Vallance Lecture in Nursing Innovation on March 31. Dr. Buerhaus is a professor of nursing and director of the Center for Interdisciplinary Health Workforce Studies at Montana State University. He is a renowned nurse economist who is recognized nationally for his expertise on health care workforce issues. Dr. Buerhaus’ research includes forecasting nurse and physician supply, developing and testing measures of hospital care quality, determining public and provider opinions on issues involving health care delivery, and assessing the quantity and quality of nurse practitioner care. A member of the AAN since 1993, he has also served on the advisory council of the National Institute of Nursing Research, the National Quality Forum Steering Committee on Nursing Quality Performance Measures, the board of directors of Sigma Theta Tau International, and the Joint Commission’s Nursing Advisory Committee. We are pleased to welcome Dr. Buerhaus to share his research on workforce projections and trends.
